Competency (CE) Requirement
Nursing practice, in Kentucky, is defined as "the performance of acts requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in the application of the nursing process...." Generally, if your job requires a nursing license, the definition of nursing practice is satisfied.

You must meet ONE of the following competency requirements:
- Recent graduate (within the past 1 year) and have:
- Licensed within the 5 years preceding the date your application is received at KBN (if you are a recent graduate, see #1 above).
- Practiced as a nurse a minimum of 500 hours within the 5 years preceding the date your application is received by KBN.
- Practiced as a nurse for 100 hours within the 5 years preceding the date your application is received at KBN. For additional information, click on the Endorsement Contact Form and submit your question(s).
- Completed a refresher course [didactic and clinical components] within 2 years of the date your application is received at KBN.
