Welcome to the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry!

The Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry is used to maintain current state registered nurse aides and home health aides in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Note:  This website is only to check the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry . . . you will not be able to check criminal background, child abuse, sex offenders, or professional licensing statuses from this site.

State Registered Nurse Aide

Although, nurse aides in Kentucky are often referred to as “Certified Nurse Aides “, the correct title for a nurse aide listed on the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry is “State Registered Nurse Aide” (SRNA).

Beginning August 5, all nurse aides listed on the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry (KNAR) have been assigned a unique identifier, called an SRNA number.  The SRNA number is an eight (8) digit number that begins with a five (5).

The SRNA number will be printed on all documentation received from the KNAR.  This includes renewal notifications and verifications of registry status.

For added safeguards throughout and ease of use of the online validation process, the Department of Medicaid Services and the Board of Nursing are working toward computer programming changes that will allow searches by the SRNA number, as well as by name.

Because the assigned number will be unique for each individual on the KNAR, a search by SRNA number will expedite a search for registry status by returning registry information on only one individual.

Facilities should begin requesting nurse aide staff to submit copies of renewal notifications they receive from KNAR.  The SRNA number is listed clearly on the renewal notification, and the employer may, once the new programming is completed, validate the registry status of nurse aide staff using that number.

Please refer to this site frequently for updates on when the programming changes have been implemented.

Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry

The Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry began in October 1990 after the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) became law. The Nurse Aide Registry has two main functions:

  • To maintain a list of qualified nurse aides.
  • To maintain a list of aides who have abused residents in facilities. A facility must verify if an individual has abused a resident in a long-term care facility before the aide can be hired by the facility.
The Office of the Inspector General regulates nurse aides who choose to work in long term care.  In July 1999, the Kentucky Board of Nursing began maintaining the registry’s database records.
